Our project 75 miles north of Cabo San Lucas had barely opened, when the twin shocks of the 2008 Housing Crisis and the Drug War in Mexico came in rapid succession, killing the market for homes in a deserted corner of Mexico. With the desalination plant running at a cost of $100,000 per month, they didn’t keep it running long.
The course started and ended at a glorious beach, with the fairways following desert arroyos up a long loop into the hills, and back down. I never got to play all 18 holes, and looking back at Larry Lambrecht’s photos from just after the course was finished, it looks like I missed a good thing.
