The inquiry didn’t sound real, honestly: co-design a golf course with Jack Nicklaus, on sandy ground with frontage on the Peconic Bay, next door to the National Golf Links of America? But it was for real, and the course opened for play in 2006.
The goal was to develop a very private course with an elite membership, and it has succeeded on that front, while also serving as host to the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open.
