When I first crested the hill to see the rocky plateau where Stone Eagle is now built, our client Ted Lennon asked me what I thought of the land, and I said it would be spectacular IF I could figure out how to fit in 18 holes there.
In the end, I found 19: the closest hole to the pro shop [300 feet below] was a beautiful par-3, and they didn’t want to use it for the 1st or 18th holes. And spectacular turned out to be a good choice of words, as you trace the flight of your tee shots against the mountains that contain the golf course. Stone Eagle was the toughest construction project of any we have worked on, but it makes the result all the more gratifying.
