Built over a wonderful stretch of the “Cups” land on the Mornington Peninsula, St. Andrews Beach is the most natural course I’ve built. Apart from digging bunkers, we only moved a bit of earth on the par-4 15th fairway so that not everyone’s second shot would be blind.
Two-shot holes are the backbone of my routings, and there are a dozen here, no two of them remotely alike. The 2nd and 14th are drivable at less than 300 yards each, while the 3rd, 10th and 13th will take two of your best shots to find the green. The course has twice been named among the top 100 courses outside the United States, and its modest green fee makes it one of the great bargains in golf.
